Here Far Away (2019) / Maor Feit
Collection: Here Far Away (2019) / Maor Feit
"In 2019, just before the familiar reality of human life took another sharp turn, I traveled to Burma (Myanmar) to photograph alongside photographers Ziv Koren and Itamar Peleg.
Everything seemed different. Every glance to the right or left could become a frame. Between innocence and threat, between play and vitality, between stillness and a reality whose true nature is difficult to grasp.
A boy with a gun or a boy in a monastery. Young nuns alongside girls jumping rope. An entire family on a train. A very old woman weaving. People engaged in everyday acts, in the midst of life itself.
Seven years later, I return to these photographs. There is something about them that feels as though they were taken yesterday, and yet it seems that entire lifetimes have passed since then. These are seemingly simple moments, holding within them a tension that is difficult to put a finger on. What looks like play may lie just a short distance from a different reality. And what looks like work is sometimes simply the way life goes on, day after day.
The photographs have remained as they were, but my perspective has changed. Today, I see in them also what I did not know then, what could not be photographed, and everything that continued to happen after the moment had passed.
Perhaps this is what draws me back to them: the thought that within a single moment, entire lives are always unfolding, far beyond what fits into the frame. And what seems far away sometimes belongs to the places closest to us. "
